Virginia Asian Soybean Rust

Home

Soybean Rust (Kitty Cardwell, CSREES)Mission

With nearly one-half million acres planted to soybeans, soybeans are Virginia's largest acreage row crop and first in gross farm receipts (nearly $136 million). Asian soybean rust can reduce soybean yields by as much as 80% if left uncontrolled. There are currently no soybean varieties with acceptable levels of resistance to this disease. Therefore, fungicides are necessary for controlling Asian soybean rust at this time and the timing of fungicide application is critical to the control of this disease.

The mission of this website is to give Virginia soybean growers, agri-business workers, and other Virginia stakeholders easy access to information and current, up-to-date recommendations needed to control Asian soybean rust and avoid crop loss from this potentially aggressive plant pathogen. Check Virginia's Current Recommendation and Forecast and Tracking information frequently. The telephone hotline is another option for keeping up-to-date with current Virginia recommendations (757-657-6450, extension 130) and keeping ahead of Asian soybean rust.
