Weeds of Container Nurseries in the United States

Large crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis)
Family: Poaceae

Large crabgrass is a prostrate to ascending, summer annual grass.  In containers, seedlings emerge from spring through early autumn. Stems root at the nodes.  Plants flower in summer and early fall, and then die after frost. There typically is only one generation per year, but seedlings emerge throughout the summer months.  Crabgrass and many other similar summer annual grasses are well controlled by most preemergence herbicides labeled for use in nursery crops, as well as by selective postemergence grass herbicides.
